To create a city where citizens don’t have to work and use money is today a technological possibility. There is almost nothing a human does that cannot be done faster and better by a machine. And if there is, the citizens will be willing to contribute voluntarily to the fulfilment of their needs.
The guidelines for the realisation of the city can be summarised in one sentence.
“A human being shouldn’t have to do what a machine could do.”
This guideline applies for everything the city and its citizens need.
“The people don’t want more jobs, they want more freedom.”
One may ask the question: if nobody is willing to work, who will be doing the dirty jobs that nobody wants to do?
The citizens will be trained and learn to respect and take responsibility for the harmonious running of the LigthCity.
When something needs to be done there are 3 possible scenarios:
1 – the smart machines can take care of it
if not
2 – some citizens volunteer to do it
if not
3 – some citizens will volunteer to create the smart machines to do it
if they don’t, if nobody wishes to spend time and energy to fulfill this particular need, then it is not a need but a desire and therefore not necessary. This need is considered to be a luxury not worth spending time for it.
Therefore the people will attend to their needs even if they are not motivated by money or ordered to do it. When hungry, one looks for food without the being told by an authority or expecting any financial compensation.
No more work doesn’t mean people stop looking after their needs. When something needs to be done, they will do it either by necessity or for pleasure.
